2017

Workshops with refugees took place in language school in Berlin - there were 4 meetings with class combined only of men in between 17-25 years
old.
They came from Pakistan, Palestine, Afghanistan, India, Thailand, Kurdistan, Africa. All of them faced great personal tragedies and obstacles on their way to Germany.
School in which they are learning German language also prepares them for their new lives in German society.
Collective workshops were proposed as a way of feeling closer to each other, to create a small community even for a short while.
At first we tried to create a common landscape - but already at the begginning every each of the members of the class started from painting a flag of he’s home country - instead of a common landscape we came out with a map with political divisions. The tension was high and there was almost a situation of a fight when one person accidentally drew a line on the flag of the other person.
Second meeting was an attempt to combine the flags and create an abstract situation of equality in between each territory. Third meeting came out to be a party on which everybody told stories about hes own culture, and we had a traditional Palestinian dance class. At the end one of the members asked why we are occupied by such childisch activities like painting and dancing - as an effect the last of the meetings were organised in computer classroom where everybody prepared an individual CV with a drawing, personal story and a proposal of future occupation in German society.
